The thought of life after high school may be daunting. Alaska is in a recession and unemployment remains high. Some students or parents may be asking what can be done to prepare for a successful career. They may not be aware of the career and technical education opportunities in the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District.
Career and technical education, or CTE, offers courses on preparing students for specific careers. The school district’s robust CTE program offers far more opportunities than the wood shop and drafting classes that many adults were limited to in high school. Indeed, Hutchison High School is Fairbanks’ premier hub for CTE. Fortunately, CTE opportunities are abundant at the district’s other high schools.
Whether a student plans to go to college or enter the workforce immediately, CTE courses can be a jump-off point for a fulfilling, well-paying career.
