Safety on the job is a big part of working in Alaska. From being “bear aware” to learning how to safely climb towers and bridges, careers in health, safety and environment, or H.S.E., are in demand.
Wednesday, Cari-Ann Carty with Alaska Process Industry Careers Consortium, and Brian Horner, Director and Founder of Learn to Return Training Systems joined Daybreak to talk about careers in the industry.
“Wind towers is a big expanding business because looking for more power and then getting that power through remote communities is a big goal, he said. There are people, men and women, already in remote communities that would make great wind tower climbers. They’re used to cold, they don’t mind altitude, don’t mind darkness, you know, so I look for those men and women.”
Salary Range (depending on experience)
- Average wages: $54,000 – $73,000 annually
